Karlee & Thomas: Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

Karlee & Thomas: Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

The Love Story

Once Karlee and Thomas met, the rest was history and the wedding bells started ringing!

“My mother and I went out to dinner and Thomas was the bartender on duty who took care of us. He courageously gave me his number on our way out and asked me to give him a call. We went on a date a week later and he asked me to marry him 6 months later when we went on a weekend wine tasting getaway in Traverse City!”

Wine tasting in Traverse City? Sounds like a picture-perfect engagement! We asked the two what they love most about each other and saw just how in love with each other’s personality they are. Karlee admires how outgoing and lovable Thomas is and Thomas appreciates Karlee’s thoughtful and caring nature.

The Wedding Preparations

One thing that stood out about Karlee and Thomas while they were planning their wedding with us was their teamwork.

“Thomas was actually very involved with the planning process as the groom. We always discussed each and every decision we made. Once we both agreed on what we did or did not want, we let our families know to keep them in the loop. We appreciated any feedback they had but we told each other that this was our special day and that we did not want outside opinions to influence us too much.”

As they got married in the fall, their vision for the wedding was a rustic look complete with fall colors and wood themed décor. The couple was referred to HORIZONS for their venue, and talked about how they were not let down. We loved helping bring this vision to life!

“Our event coordinator, Andrea, was amazing at her job! Her communication and prompt responses let us know that she was always on top of everything. She never pushed us to do anything we did not want and always guided us in the right direction when we had a thought or idea that we wanted to include to make sure it turned out for the best. The entire staff did a phenomenal job with taking care of us. All key contact persons made sure they introduced themselves at the beginning of the day and always asked if anything was needed throughout. HORIZONS was very accommodating all around.”

The wedding planning process can be overwhelming—there’s so much that goes into one day! But according to Karlee, it was all worth it; seeing all the planning come to fruition on the wedding day was “breathtaking.” However, in order to make the journey to the wedding as enjoyable as possible, the couple shared what helped them: “Keep things simple. Don’t worry about other people’s views. It’s your day!”

The Big Day

Karlee and Thomas held both their ceremony and reception at HORIZONS. There are so many special moments on your wedding day, but the two sincerely loved having their closest family and friends all together the most. They also incorporated Thomas’ Middle Eastern background by kicking off the night with a cultural grand entrance dance—what a fun touch! As for what they wished they’d done differently, they couldn’t think of anything.

Maybe one reason the couple wouldn’t change a thing about their wedding was because they thought through the whole day in advance. The two share their biggest piece of wedding day advice with us:

“Be organized. Make sure your itinerary for the day is scheduled and planned out. It helps make sure that you are on track with timing. The day goes by quickly!”

We always love when our couples share a little bit of marriage advice with us, and this one is a winner:

“Even though you’re married, still continue to date your spouse! As couples, we have to continue to have fun in marriage because life is hard and we can definitely lose ourselves in the daily sprint.”

Thank you, Karlee and Thomas, for sharing your wedding memories with us!
