Our History

In 1995, Dr. Samuel and Patricia Shaheen began the transformation of a former K-Mart into mid-Michigan’s premier event center. We held our first events in April 1996 – a family wedding, followed by a fundraiser for a beloved local charity. With over 40,000 square feet of flexible event space, HORIZONS offers myriad venue options for events ranging from small gatherings to large galas. Another 60,000 square feet of our State Street facility is leased to long-term tenants, which have included Fortune 50 companies, universities and local businesses over the years.

Saginaw’s Pâtisserie and Michigan Cream & Sugar Ice Cream Company in Uptown Bay City got their start at HORIZONS – both as extensions of our award-winning culinary department. They are distinct businesses today, but remain an important part of the HORIZONS family.
